Adult Bunny Costume

Easter is looked forward to by children almost as much as Christmas. They know that their friend the Easter Bunny has been there to put lots of goodies in their Easter Basket. The kids even love to see someone dressed up in an adult Bunny Costume at their Easter party, helping them find the hidden eggs and other special treats.

The tradition of the Easter bunny comes from popular folklore that tells of the Pagan goddess Eoster, who rescued a bird with frozen wings. She turned the poor little bird into a rabbit to help keep it warm during the winter. But since it had once been a bird, it was still able to lay eggs as before.

This version of the Easter Bunny reached America in the 18th century with the German immigrants who told their children the tale of the Osterhase, which means Easter Hare. So it’s not even a bunny at all, but a hare!

Australian tradition highlights the Easter Bilby, which is an endangered native marsupial. They don’t even like rabbits, and consider them annoying pests. That’s why they downplay the Easter Bunny down under.

So you can see how many different traditions and cultures have blended together to create the Easter Bunny tradition as we know it today. Maybe it’s time to start your own family traditions, starting with your home and neighborhood Easter egg hunt – with Dad wearing the festive adult bunny costume to the delight of all the children at the party.
